SPARKS

We run activity sessions throughout the week, aimed at improving coordination, balance and sensory regulating skills.

We have based our sessions on the resource pack which was compiled by Mary Hodson and Clare Reabow, two Occupational Therapists from the Paediatric Therapy Department in Swindon.

The 'SPARKS' resource pack was devised for teachers and parents to address some of the co-ordination difficulties that school-age children experience.

Co-ordination difficulties may be a result of a physical disability, a learning disability or a global developmental delay. Alternatively the child may not have had the opportunity to develop their co-ordination because of social difficulties or cultural expectations.

These sessions are fun, and encourage teamwork and communication skills as well as allowing the children to develop strategies which they can use in lessons.

We currently run these SPARKS sessions weekly for years 7, 8, the TLC groups. Some older pupils also take part, as identified through the physio/ OT support staff.

Reports will be monitored by the lead for SPARKS, and released to parents at the end of the year.
